We had a bit of excitement the Saturday before Christmas when Pierre Nkurunziza, the President of Burundi, visited our rehabilitation program in the southern province of Makamba (Nyanza Lac commune). We are all exceedingly grateful for this honor and I must say it is due, in large part, to the wonderful character and commitment of Dominic Dolla, the manager of WR's activities there. As a part of his visit the President symbolically received a goat from the US church and presented it to a vulnerable widow in the community. I was asked to represent the church in America and specifically my home church, Good Shepherd, who helped fund this particular aspect of the rehabilitation program. So in the photo from left to right are Dolla, the beautiful and delighted widow, myself, and President Nkurunziza.
